 | frogio (47) 04/30/2008 | Reflection or reaction. Sometimes it is better to smile at the face of pain...it allows for that simple transition from submission to assent.

 | cyclee (18) 04/29/2008 | This is one silly question with some suggestion of mental illness, but why the hell do I catch myself doing that all the time!!!

 | Donovan (130) 04/29/2008 | If it's a physical hurt, I don't laugh. If it's a mental or emotional hurt I may laugh although be it rare. I think we laugh more when other people are around us. We don't want to roll up in a fetal position balling our eyes out when we're in public. Humans are funny that way.

 | Enkidu (37) 02/25/2007 | Often because we don't want to be hurt more: laughing can
be a defensive gesture. Also it can be the most healing way to
deal with truly terrible suffering.

 | LastMessenger3 (40) 02/25/2007 | I do it because I don't want to give myself away. People don't always understand my vulnarability and sensetivity and see it as weakness and I'm not the type who has a need to explain myself to every single person.
