Why not? Its better than morbid despair.

When the pack turns for home and my horse is boxed five back on the rail, I still keep hoping for a stewards' inquiry that will disqualify the others and pay me.

Its human nature.

There's very little you can do if something is "hopeless", hoping for better is the only thing you can do so why wouldn't one do it.

As long as there is life, there is hope. No situation is ever hopeless, and even when we hope for the better, there are always others who are in worse conditions or circumstances than we are.

My late grandmother always used to say, "Live in hope, die in despair."

because that is one of the only things that may keep a person going. to try and look for that light at the end of the tunnel. better than giving up and not trying to move forward.

Because in life it rarely ever is hopeless. Lots of terrible things happen in life: a family member dies, you lose a job, you get ill. You know what? those things happen, and life usually just goes on. As I see it, its all part of the course. Now what's key is how you handle what comes along to you in life. We can't decide what we go through in life, yet how we react to things can determine the paths that our lives will take. That's where we ultimately have free will. Nothing in life is ever completely hopeless in my view, you can always achieve redemption if you so choose. That though is up to you. If you decide from the beginning that a situation is hopeless, chances are that the situation will not come out like you want it to.

This probably helps us to survive at the deepest instinctual level. If we just gave up and died when things seemed hopeless, we'd be as extinct as the dinosaurs.

For the most part, I consider myself an eternal optimist and for me this holds true. It's just part of my make up. Not easily explained. However, I have met people through the years that seem to continually seek out the hopeless, throughout their lives. Go figure.

As I said elsewehere; because deep down, we're all optimists. Save for depression, most people still have hope that things will change for the better and that they'll come out better and stronger for having gone through everything they did.

Hope is the most powerful feeling. It's greater than any other emotion because it brings peace and contentment. Many times when we hope we think of God, better future, one big love, wishes coming true, and inner peace. Hope helps us survive!
