This is definitely really hurtful when it happens in reality, but I find it the idea of it pretty damn hilarious. It's really just a euphemism for, "Wow, you're fat. You're not pregnant are you? Because if you are, your massive gut might be mildly acceptable. Otherwise, you should probably consider laying off those Baconators and hopping on a treadmill once in awhile, you giant hippopotamus."

I absolutely HATE it when people think that they have the right to say this, not to me but to others in general. It's obviously okay to ask if you are in a maternity store and the women are OBVIOUSLY showing.

This is a total social faux pas....be prepared for a black eye afterward.

Yes, looks can be deceiving and blurting this out to a woman can be embarrassing for everyone in the room But, some men and their bellies make me wonder if the "we're pregnant" phrase has any validity after all. I've seen lots of guys who appear to be 20 months pregnant and ready to give birth to a case of Bud.

this could get someone in trouble. Never assume a woman is pregnant unless they say they are. just because a lady has a belly does not make her pregnant. pretty classic insult to pat someone on the belly and "oh when are you due?"

I might not ask it, but I'll probably be thinking it.
