OOPS. I put my review of the Red Sox here by mistake. The Birds suk. Melvin Mora is just about the entire offense. Anybody have the stomach to watch Daniel Cabrera pitch?

The Orioles have made some progress going into this year, but they haven't done enough to be competitive in September in the AL East. Aubrey Huff and Jay Payton will add some much needed depth to the Orioles lineup. Miguel Tejada is still one of the top players in the game, and Nick Markakis is an up and coming star. However, the lineup as a whole still isn't one of the best in the AL. The improved bullpen should also help the O's win a few more games in 2007. However, the starting rotation is still mediocre. Erik Bedard is a rising star. Daniel Cabrera and Adam Loewen have shown flashes of greatness but have yet to put it all together. They are still young, so there is great hope for the future. Jaret Wright and Steve Trachsel are uninspiring ends to the rotation. Trachsel's era was almost 5 last year, so it is unlikely he will win as many games as he did in '06 with the Mets. Wright won 11 games last year with the Yankees, but is often injured and doesn't pitch a lot of innings. Best case scenario for the O's is 3rd in the division and staying competitive in the Wild Card race.

They're a little bit better than they have been in recent years-you can't call them the Bor-i-oles anymore. They might even possibly jump into 3rd place. They seem to have addressed the bullpen issue, have a couple of promising to good starters, and have a few bats, most notably Tejada. However, there are still some pretty big holes in the lineup and they still have a below average rotation as a whole: I can't see them as a serious contender for even the wild card just yet. When I was young this was a perennial contender with some very fine and memorable teams- a dangerous team. However, those St. Louis Browns genes that they carry ( a generally awful club that they began as before moving to Maryland) has been kicking in with a vengeance since '97... They'll be improved, but not ready to contend.
