I know that I should be rooting for the underdog in the Rockies vs. Red Sox World Series. The problem is that I believe that the decline of civilization picked up speed when baseball moved more than 20 miles west of the Mississippi and south of the District of Columbia.

If they could play the bulk of their games at home I'd give them a better shot. Where they play, when a batter comes to the plate he's in scoring position. They put on a hell of a run down the stretch to get into post season, winning 14 of 15 including the playoff against the Padres. However, the fact is that their pitching just isn't that good, and while the same can be said of the Phillies, their first round opponent, it is marginally better, at least in the rotation. Its an interesting matchup. Both teams are big hitting explosive teams with sketchy pitching and average defense.

*Three in the bottom of the 13th off of Trevor Hoffman? Are you kidding me?**If Peavy can't slow this team down, who will?* Is there a hotter team in baseball right now? The Rockies are coming like a freight train right now, steamrolling everybody in their path. I'm not sure if they have enough to squeak past the Pads and Phils, but it looks like they're going to get damn close.

They should hover around .500 I would imagine. The same old story; where's the pitching? Actually, they do have some decent arms- just not enough of them. It sometimes seems like even Gibson and Koufax would post 4.92 ERA's in that park. Ok, that's a stretch but still... They have some good young hitters even factoring in the home park benefit, but I can't see them winning all that many games, maybe 75-85.
