 | travelgal (0) 02/01/2007 | get a grip people, this building used to be an old hotel called The Hotel Utah. Instead of tearing it down, they restored it & turned it into a reception/meeting center. There are 2 restaurants on the top floor, there is a movie theater where the LDS church (who owns the building) shows a movie about Christ, or the history of the church, etc (not always the same movie). The building is beautiful, they did a great job restoring the ornate woodwork & other details of the original hotel.

 | JC22 (0) 08/17/2004 | The building itself is quite beautiful. Lovely atriums, marble and woodwork. The building is filled with statues and pictures of Joseph Smith. In the adjacent garden is a statue of Joseph and his wife Emma. I didn't see anything that mentioned or honored any of Joseph Smith's other wives, however. They sacrificed a great deal; I would like to have seen them remembered in some way, like Emma was. Personally, I'm not real excited with the way Joseph Smith treated his wives, so I had a difficult time feeling comfortable with the way he his honored via this building.

 | Mustard Seed (0) 04/07/2004 | The main loby is ammazing. You can watch a very well done movie too if you have the time. Attend any event you can in either the Kirtland room or go to the restaurant at the top for a one of a kind view of the Temple spires!

 | kolby1973 (33) 12/14/2003 | I thought it was great that they finally named a building in the downtown area after the first prophet and seer. The building itself is not really any different than any other large building or structure, but the fact that it was named after such a great man and prophet is pretty cool.

 | LadyShark4534 (12) 07/02/2003 | I walked in this place. It had to be the most boring area on the face of this Earth. Not worth looking at or going in. Maybe it's cause Mormons piss me off or something, but anything to do with Joseph Smith makes me want to vomit!
