Patriotic is wanting what's best for your country. It's not synonomous with military service.

Serving my people and my country are the first steps to take at an utmost course. This involves leaving a governmental seat, and join the combat if things are difficult for my soldiers to cop with, when at war with the enemy, and leave the seat for my vice president to act instead. Defending a country is more important than anything. That means putting on my uniforms, and take a rifle, or jump in a tank, or an aircraft, and drive out the enemy at all costs. Yes that's right!... No kidding!....hahaaa...laughing louder...like Agamemnon...pretty cool eh?

Service is becoming a bad word, unless it refers to serve oneself. Fewer and fewer are willing to serve the country and serve others. Rather, they expect to be served, it is their "constitutional" right, if they even know what the Constitution is. I have heard comments that the fathers of our nations who sacrificed their wealth, health and even lives for the benefit of the nation, were plainly stupid. We teach por children to demand rights, and tell them that others should serve, not them. Tell your child that he should serve in the armed forces and they will mention your mother in not a nice manner. If your child tells you he wants to serve in the armed forces, you will take him to a psychiatrists and check him out. It's "I, me and mine" and to hell with the rest.

Patriotism means loyalty. It means to defend your country's beliefs and honor and integrity. It also means to avoid bringing shame and embarassment to you country.

This is absolutely a cornerstone of patriotism. It does not mean however, that you cannot be patriotic if you were never a member of the armed services.
