 | Windyfarm123 (0) 01/26/2008 | My Yard Machine has been a nightmare from day one! Engine appears to be too far advanced and starter rope recoils at a violent rate and will yank plastic handle right out of my hand and then shatters upon seating. Starter worked itself loose and eventually hold down bolts stripped. Numerous complaints to MTD, they sent it to local dealer, dealer had it for a year and was returned to me with the same starter handle problem. MTD is now ignoring my complaints, spoke with another dealer who advised that there is no timing adjustment on these engines and may be a manufacturing defect. With the starter tightened up I can use it sparingly but can never use the pull starter. During all of this I bought a White 10.5X 28" not realizing that it too was made by MTD. Another nightmare. This unit has the "Joystick" chute deflector, joystick freezes up and is useless. Would not move forwards or backwards, dealer perplexed over this one, they suggested I keep the snowblower DRY. Maybe if I used it only in the summertime I could. In any event, I looked up the problem on line and I roughened up the surface of the friction plate and that problem is now corrected. Both units have plastic chutes which are prone to flying off. I have bought my last MTD product!

 | phazerbro (0) 12/31/2007 | falling apart in third season of use. Directional chute won't turn, reverse barely works, bolts for handlebars fell out after tearing sheetmetal, gas leak when full, augur bent easily, belt stretches after a single use and machine slows rendering low speeds useless. No where to get it fixed.

I purchased in Dec/04 and used 04/05 winter. Before the next winter the wheels locked. Had it repaired under warranty and used for 05/06 winter, after which, the wheels locked again. MTD had run out of replacement parts, and it took over 3 months to get it repaired. The idle is too fast in low gear, and the remote chute control does not lock, so unless you hold onto it, the chute is forced upward. Despite the high horsepower it throws snow only about 20 feet. Not a good machine for the price i paid, and the manufacturer could care less when i complained about waiting 3 months. I will never buy MTD again.
