Very well done mystery/horror/comedic show. Short lived though. Loved it in 1974 and taped most of the episodes when they played a while back on the Sci-Fi channel. Still enjoyable today but more like three stars today. Low budget for sure. Always enjoyed Darrin McGavin's work.

I enjoyed the series about Darren McGavin as the hard bitten reporter chasing after things that go "Bump in the Night."

I bought the entire series on DVD on one of the internet auction sites. I don't think that the series ran the whole year.

The show was a pretty limited concept and probably only worth one season, but the real reason for watching was Darren McGavin's crotchety half courageous, half scared out of his wits performance as Kolchak. I'd love to get my hands on some of these old episodes.

Although the two made for T.V. Movies (The Night Stalker, The Night Strangler) were better than the T.V. series, the series was still enjoyable. The weekly series that ran for just one season in 1974 and not even a full season(20 episodes), because Darren McGavin wanted to focus on the comic aspects of the show and the creators wanted to emphasize the paranormal side, McGavin was released from his contract after the 20th episode, which ended the shows run in 1975. The Night Stalker series could be "campy" at times, but it was still entertaining and it was fun to see some real bad special effects, some of the monsters were real cheesey looking, but remember it was 1974. Overall it was a good show that was over too quickly.
