Don't see why it's strange. People are jerks, no matter the circumstance. You'll even have those few who respond like jerks to things like car crashes, or terrorism. What I don't understand about this topic is, why does anyone let themselves be bullied over the internet? Talk back! Fight back! If you don't feel witty enough to tell someone off, look up some insults via Google - that's what it's there for!

. . . how exactly would one be a "cyber-bully"? Is there a way to give digital swirlies or something? I had to look this one up.

According to http://www.cyberbully.org/, a cyber-bully is one who engages in these activities:

# Sending cruel, vicious, and sometimes threatening messages.

# Creating web sites that have stories, cartoons, pictures, and jokes ridiculing others.

# Posting pictures of classmates online and asking students to rate them, with questions such “Who is the biggest ___ (add a derogatory term)?”

# Breaking into an e-mail account and sending vicious or embarrassing material to others.

# Engaging someone in IM (instant messaging), tricking that person into revealing sensitive personal information, and forwarding that information to others.

# Taking a picture of a person in the locker room using a digital phone camera and sending that picture to others.

After reading that, I don't see a need to have a term like "cyber-bully" when it's just being an ass in real life and extending that behavior to a different medium: the internet. People being assholes isn't anything new, no matter what form they take, and regardless of how it's done, it's lame.

Oh yeah, this is a great one! I suppose arguing every now and then is inevitable, everyone has the right to have a bad day every so often: but really, what's the point? It seems obvious that some of the loudest and most truculent trolls are probably in reality dead ringers for Wormser from Revenge of the Nerds...A grouching or combativeness here and there is one thing, but would be internet bullies that's pretty laughable. Probably in many cases the same crew that, 30 years ago would've read those ads in the back of wrestling magazines and send away for those grow muscles in 7 days and kick the sand back in THEIR faces!
