On a recent visit to Petsmart, my husband pulled into a spot next to a van. It was the day when the local animal shelters came out with some pets for adoption. I immediately stopped talking about whatever I was talking about and said "Greg . . . I need your phone . . . . like, now. . . . "I needed to take this picture, that unfortunately I cannot upload right now. But, the van next to us had a big logo for the local Animal Shelter . . . . And, the bumper sticker on the back read:"PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals"It was an advertisement for a local barbecue restaurant. :)

A fair amount of the reasonable animal activists are not vegetarian, such as the people who donate time to animal shelters, etc. But the vast majority of the crazy animal activists who I'd like to punch in the face (PETA, ALF), certainly are vegetarians.

I believe you can stand for humane and ethical treatment of animals and still eat meat. We should be thankful for what God has given us for sustenence which includes not abusing it.

I guess it depends on what these proposed animals are griping about in the first place. Personally, I blame it on the omnivores...as they invariably indulge themselves on the honey-bacon-turkey fat-egg yolk-chicken lip-rat droppings vinaigrette at the local cruise ship's salad bar. The brussel sprouts are organic, though.....

I guess it depends what you call activist. For example, I'm against the steel-jaw leg hold trap for catching wild animals to harvest their fur, but I'd be happy to eat a burger from a grass-fed free range cattle.

If they are not, they are the biggest hypocrites.

Hmm..the animal rights activists that I have encountered are all vegetarian or vegan to my knowledge. Animal welfare advocates tend to be a mixed bunch in terms of their diets, in my experience.

Ticks me off when people say some animals are put here for food so its ok to eat them. So if we bred humans solely for the purpose of eating them would that be ok since thats all they know? What about dogs? No of course not, because they're cute and so is bambi so you shouldnt hunt. Well bambi fed all of our ancestors before cows came along, who says cows should get shafted with being labelled as food? I'm a hunter and an animal activist, because I respect the animals I eat. I dont believe that you should feel better about eating an animal that was bludeoned to death by someone else. I feel better when I hunt the animal because I know that not only am I enforcing game conservation by cutting down on overpopulation and killing animals fthat would otherwise starve, but that I gave it fair chase and there was a good chance it would live another day. Cows dont get that chance. Personally I dont feel bad for cows because people gotta eat, but I hate it when people try to make themselves feel better by saying "I didnt kill it" or "it was born to be food." Dont try to pass the axe and make excuses. If you like meat, eat it and dont try to justify it so you can turn around and still claim to be an animal lover.

I am not a vegetarian, but an activist to a degree for humane treatment for all animals. There are right ways and wrong ways of doing things.

There are animals that are put here for food, and some that are not. I respect people who do not believe in eating meat, but they shouldn't give a meat eater like me a bad time. I wasn't the one that hunted it... so I'll happily dig in!
