There is indeed a segment who think when they die they're automatically going to some kind of Fundies Only Perpetual Disneyland by handing over a hundred dollar bill to some inbred, sweating, goober every week while everyone else goes to Hell, or even worse, a diabolical cross between Newark and Wheeling.

My 1 star rating is not a comment on the quality of Christian life. I suspect that their across the board levels of contentment are about the same as anyone else's. My 1 star rating is for the absurdity of the list item. I've never met anyone whose grasp on reality was not in question who holds to such a contention.

Being a Christian doesn't mean that your life is perfect. It means that you can cope with most of the things that go wrong.
Molfan 11/16/2008
no they do not. there are some who think they are perfect and holier than thou. and do not have a problem telling others they are sinners and going to hell. I realize that not all Christians are like this. but many are. and they can just keep their "I am a christian so I am perfect" opinions to themselves. I realize that all people have obstacles in their lives including Christians.being Christians does not make them exempt from difficulties in life.

Too many people expect Christians to live a perfect life. As human beings, we all make mistakes and make wrong judgments, and God is there to help us pick up the pieces when we do. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that we as Christians should try to live the best lives that we can, with the help of Jesus Christ.
HistoryFan 01/12/2008
Um, not this Christian. I've had problems with depression and "impure" thoughts for years. However, God helps me "battle my demons," so to speak.
Every Christian I've met has had their down moments. There is no such thing as a perfect Christian. If there is one out there, I'd like to meet him/her.

The only one who is perfect is God Himself. Although I (as a Christian) want to set the best possible example that I can, it really bugs me how some people tend to think of us as infallible and beyond making mistakes. I also know that there are some who will deliberately try to push us over the limit, to see how upset we can get, then judge our "degree of Christianity" by the very fact that they've upset us. There's something not right about that. I'm a human, not a superhuman.

No one has a perfect life esp Christians.
zuchinibut 11/30/2007
This is just a dumb statement. Christians believe in sin and realize that they are imperfect, while those who are not Christian would probably convert if they realized it made them perfect.

???????? Does anyone actually assume this? For persons who do, I say the following: Tammy Faye Baker, Jesse Jackson and seemingly one out of three priests currently serving the Catholic Church.
Humorbot 03/21/2007
More than total hogwash...In fact its pure and complete "bollocks."
kamylienne 03/20/2007
No one is perfect. And that's perfectly okay.
LastMessenger3 03/20/2007
Then I must be either blind or dumb not to see it.
pugwash01 03/20/2007
This is a terrible assumption, as Christians do fail and they do not always lead by example!!! Christ was the only person that has ever lived a perfect life! Christians are different from the unsaved, because they do have the power to overcome sin, through Jesus Christ! They can change and be Christ like; But they do not lead a perfect life, not by any means!! Christians we must pray for one another, so that we can be christ-like and thus be a true example for God. Jamie McBain 03/20/2007
No, that's definetly not the case.
Randyman 03/20/2007
Yes, my life is absolute perfection. .......uh, that was a joke you know.
numbah16tdhaha 03/20/2007
That would make things easy and God likes to challenge people.

This may be the sentiment of prosperity preachers like Cashflow Dollar and Benny "The Butcher" Hinn, to name just two who believe that a child of God should NEVER be sick or suffer lack, but the Christian life is one of many trials, tribulations, and failures. We have much that God has to take us through before we are totally transformed to the image of Christ, which is God's ultimate goal(Rom 8:29). During that journey, we may have to suffer lack as Paul did, we may be persecuted severely as the early church in the bible AND many Christians in other countries today, and we may fall to occasional sin, but as John said, if we sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I take comfort in the fact that I cannot be perfect by my own strength or will, but that I must allow God to do the perfecting, as it's written, "He who began a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ(Phillipians 1:6).

If Christians have a perfect life then they would no longer need Christ and this of course is simply not the case. My life is far from perfect, I take each day as it comes and it's by God's grace through the shed blood of Christ that I am forgiven.
