03/26/2007 | Coined by the infamous Donald Rumsfeld, dividing the European countries that supported/opposed the Iraq war into rival groups. The division makes little sense, as the citizens of 'Old Yurp' (Germany, France) and 'New Yurp' (Britain, Spain, Italy, Poland) overwhelmingly opposed the war; only their leaders differed. The demographic ageing of the European continent has kept this term alive, though the division between a 'New' and 'Old' Europe has been quietly dropped.
