The only truly effective allergy medicine, not popular with medical communitity as first line defense because it isn't expensive enough.

This is the best OTC antihistamine you can get.  Sometimes it makes me drowsy, but the relief from itchy eyes and sneezing is worth it.   Store brands of this type of medicine work just as well, as long as they have the same active ingredient.  Just half the price.

Even though they may say "non-drowsy" on the package, it's totally not true. This stuff will knock me out like I've been shot by a tranquilizer made for an elephant. It works wonderful but I can't stand how it knocks me out and practically blurs my vision.

I've had the same experience - it's overkill. It'll knock out all your senses, not just those being attacked by allergies. As far as it making you sleepy: your response to alcohol can probably tell you how you'll respond to Benadryl. If alcohol numbs your senses but actually makes it harder for you to sleep, as it does for me, then Benadryl will probably have the same effect.

I will only take this at bedtime bc it makes me drowsy. If I take (2), it knocks me out for 8 hours easily and in the a.m. I have a little "hangover," from it that impairs my ability to react quickly. Use caution when taking this stuff. Always ask your doctor if it's an appropriate med for your situation.

Works really well for me, but I prefer to take it at night because it causes drowsiness.

Makes me drowsy during the day and keeps me awake at night.
