Considered the leading museum of the Southeast, this institution is home to over 11,000 permanent pieces, and North America's only curatorial department dedicated to the field of folk and self-taught art. The museum was founded in 1905 and remains dedicated to supporting Southern artists. A 1983 structural addition not only tripled the museum's space, but also received critical acclaim in and of itself.
