
Margaret Mitchell lived here while she was writing Gone with the Wind. The site thus offers visitors a glimpse into the author's life, but doesn't stop there. Aside from the house itself, there is a Visitor Center and a museum devoted to the making of the film. The building itself has had a rocky history, having been renovated, slated for demolition, and twice set on fire by arsonists--all within twenty years, before reaching its current state.
