I am inclined to agree with most of the other reviewers who have stated this isn't a smart thing to say. However, I know of one case where it worked in a positive way. I had a friend who was trying to convince his girlfriend to quit smoking. One day she asked him to pick up a pack of smokes for her. When he got home he handed her the pack and said  "Sally (his ex wife) used to love these. She smoked them all the time." Next thing my friend knows the medicine cabinet is overflowing with nicotine patches, nicotine gum, and pamphlets from groups like "Smoke-enders" etc. While I would not recommend this tactic to others it did work for my friend and according to him, he finally found something positive he could say about Sally.
