Not necessarily true. Just because I might like something in particular doesn't necessarily mean someone else will. It's all a matter of personal taste.

do not be so sure. I have clothing i rarely wear, and other presents that have not been a hit. and i have no doubt I have given things the other was not pleased with. we all have different tastes. so being positive someone will like something because you did  may lead to disappointments.

Reminds me of when my workplace surprised me with a cake for my birthday.  We usually do cake for birthdays, but I figured that my birthday was on Saturday so I was off the hook.  And, the odd thing was, it was ice cream cake.  That was strange.

"Thanks, guys . . . and you guys got me ice cream cake, that's pretty . . . wow."
"Yeah, your husband said this was your favorite."
" . . . hey, that's waitaminute, HIS favorite, not mine!"
