I don't think that this is acceptable. I don't think somebody should give somebody something that needed repaired. If you can't get somebody something that's in good condition already, then you shouldn't get them anything at all.

Depending on what it is, it's not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, yeah, it's used, but it also meant that the giver took the time to fix something for you.
