04/30/2007 | Bannister threw hard, and could rack up the k's. Tended to play for some bad teams in Houston and Seattle, except for that somewhat flukish 1983 White Sox club who won the AL West by 20 games and looked like they were going to destroy all comers until they were rather handily defeated by eventual champion Baltimore. Bannister, who also played for KC, wound up with a losing lifetime mark, but had some good years: he was a hard pitcher to predict, erratic, he might win say 16 games and he might lose 16. Not a great pitcher, but not a bust with this pick either. He had about four decent to good years, and perhaps if he'd played for more good teams he'd have had a better record. His son Brian has played with the Mets and is with KC now.
