Which was true enough, but he had a remarkable knack for serving up gopher balls, and only managed a few winning seasons before packing it in.
I seem to recall him having a history of injury problems, which may have been the cause of his limited success, but that may be my faulty memory at work.
He was actually drafted in 1986 in the 27th round by the Braves, but did not sign, and was drafted #1 by the Orioles 3 years later.
