In 1994, she said she did not want her players wearing earrings because "only fruits wear earrings". Despite her reputation she was a hands-off owner, the Reds had the lowest ticket prices in baseball under her regime, the stadium served $1 hotdogs, and she would let children play in the outfield before the games.
