There's
an excellent cover story by Tom Verducci in
Sports Illustrated recently which shocked me into recognizing that Lincecum is the best young pitcher since Dwight Gooden. As the article demonstrates, Lincecum's talent is enormous but not unique among young pitchers. According to Verducci's analysis, what makes Lincecum the best young pitcher is his development of a unique delivery which gives his body the ability to withstand the rigors of pitching which have taken down so many others of like talent, such as Mark Prior.
