Doctor Who 1

Doctor... say what? Horrible.

Update: I am sorry for rushing into rating this series. Honestly, I have not seen any other than the one that is currently running on the Sci Fi Channel and based my evaluation on this particular series.

Doctor Who 3

I'm sort of with edt4 on this.  I've seen some of the Tom Baker series, and a few of the others, and while I'm not much impressed in general, they do have a certain goofy charm, particularly the Baker versions.

The Daleks are laughable villains (they can conquer the galaxy but ladders and stairs immobilize them?) and the plots are silly, but at least they don't, unlike much of the bigger budget productions of more recent years, take themselves overly seriously.

Doctor Who 4

Well, I have to respectfully disagree with lmorovan regarding this. I'm not a big fan of sci-fi in general, and I've never watched any of the Doctor Who episodes that didn't feature Tom Baker (and have no real interest in watching them), but I've loved those particular episodes since I first saw them in the early 1980's (they were actually filmed during the mid 70's). True, the whole concept is silly if looked at in the bright light of day (isn't a lot of sci-fi?), but it still retains a charm all its own, at least for me. Baker is a marvelous British actor (he was great even in crappy movies like "The Mutations" or "Vault of Horror"), and he invests the character with a sunny if absent-minded good-heartedness that won me over every time, even when he was combating ridiculous-looking mummy/robots in the heart of the English countryside (the series did suffer from budgetary constraints). Part of the appeal, quite frankly, was that I had an enormous crush on Elizabeth Sladen, but I still enjoy watching the re-runs today, and my crush abated by the mid 80's (I was a late bloomer, obviously). I don't necessarily want to give the wrong impression; it's not as if I think "Doctor Who" is the greatest thing to come out of Britain since the Beatles. But, as I've mentioned, I've ordered a few of the DVD's and watching the show again is delightful, nostalgic (and, yes, occasionally silly) fun.
