Last week I took one of the scariest falls I've ever taken on the basketball court.  My team was getting pummeled - I mean, absolutely annihlated by a team that we usually handle pretty easily.  One of their guards who had been killing us all day was on a break away, and I was about to enforce the "no layups rule" that my pissed off team had agreed to during our last time out.  On the dead run, I went up Tayshaun Prince style to swat the shot (and probably hammer the guy in the process).  I didn't think I would be able to get the ball cleanly, but I knew that the guy wasn't going to score.

To make a long story short, the guy didn't go up.  He pump faked.  On a break away, he pump fakes the basketball.  This left me in an awkward spot.  As I go up at full speed to block his shot, I literally flip over back, and come crashing down from about 5 1/2 feet in the air and land on my back.  The whole gym went "ohhhhhhhh."  I was so pissed off - at the game, at the pump fake, at the fact that I didn't get to swat the shot - that I bounced up and got in the guys face for not trying to break my fall.  Ref asked me if I was OK, and I snarled at him that the guy wasn't in the act of shooting and shouldn't go to the line.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I played the rest of the game out without a problem.  It was only the next day that I realized the impact of the fall.  My tailbone was bruised, but more seriously, my wrist was just killing me to the point I couldn't put any pressure on it.  I self diagnosed on the Web, and found out that the symptoms for a broken wrist and a sprained wrist were pretty similar, with the big difference that a broken wrist doesn't feel better after a couple of days.  Fortunately my wrist is getting better, and I should be able to go again tonight.
