While not the perfect film, I think the recent adaptation was a successful presentation of the wildly imaginative and quirky first book in the four part trilogy. Any time you take on a book that bends time and distorts inner and outer space, you will run into troubles moving from the page to the screen. I really liked the look of the movie too.
