(3=importance high, effect not yet established)
Absolutely horrific to watch even snippets of it on cnn.com; what makes my stomach churn even worse is the knowledge that this is happening on a regular basis over there and in other parts of the world. It's easy to ignore when we don't have the visuals to go along with it, but now with cell phone cameras people in pampered parts of the world like ours can witness the unthinkable and truly see what kind of injustice there is out there. But, even as I can see it, there is no way that I can understand how there is anything "honorable" about so-called "honor-killings" in brutally murdering girls whose only "crime" was being in love, or "their dowries are considered insufficient" or worse, being the victim of rape (in some areas, being the victim of a rape makes you "guilty". I can't even begin to figure out how that makes any sense whatsoever).
While this video clearly shocked and horrified many people, whether or not it has a long-term impact on establishing some type of solid and effective policy on cracking down on these murderers is yet to be seen. The four men in the video have been arrested, but there are many more killers still out there.
