 | Bird808 (53) 05/25/2007 | I do like this Beatles track, but I would have to say "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was far more psychedelic than this song. This song was actually written by John Lennon. I read somewhere once that in his early years near where he lived there was an orphanage or place called "Strawberry Fields" and he used to love playing with the orphans there as he was an only child and used to get bored. When he wrote this, it was him getting back in touch with the child in him and the fun he used to have playing with those children. I could be completely wrong, so someone please correct me if I am.

"Magical Mystery Tour" was probably my favorite Beatles album when I was a kid (I had several), but I haven't listened to it in a long time. Recently, I acquired the CD, and took my anticipated trip down Memory Lane. Sometimes, that trip can be bittersweet, even unpleasant, but I was astonished at how much consistently great music was contained on the CD, perhaps even more great music than I had supposed as a kid. My favorite song in the past had always been "I Am The Walrus", and it's still a great song, but listening to "Strawberry Fields" now as an adult, I think "Strawberry Fields" is the better song. I'm not quite sure what the lyrics mean, but the loveliness of the music and Lennon's voice touches the spirit in ways that words never could. May well stand as the best and most beautiful song the Beatles ever did, and the pinnacle of their pop-psychedelic inventiveness.

Enormously influential and innovative song that somehow I never get sick of, and I often get sick of songs easily.
