Really talented, impressive, and diverse outfit, kind of like an American version of their contemporary The Incredible String Band in the sense of playing proto- world music, but played harder and faster than the Scottish band did, and have very little in common with them. Some tracks went on too long, but they utilized a tremendous array of instruments- sitars, bouzoukis, ouds, balalaikas, glockenspiels, etc. This comes from their first record, which had some short tunes. An anti-war song- ghostly with some beautiful music and poignant lyrics. Not everything worked, but when it did, this band were great. Never more than a cult band really- too strange and complex for the mainstream.
