3.5 This is a good tune, but not among their best tracks in my opinion. Another of the songs that make you wonder what this magazine was thinking. I don't see any psychedelia in this one, and if it's there, it's very faint. This is, as you'd probably guess from the title alone, a good time, dance/ party song for the era, Certainly Sly and the Family Stone took some inspiration from what was going on around them, and Stone had actually started out as a producer and disc jockey in the Bay Area. But this was a very complex and influential band that had a huge influence on funk and r&b in particular in the following decade, though they had some rock elements. I will say that their albums "Stand!" and "There's A Riot Goin' On" are stone classics.
