12 Monkeys 4

Surprisingly well-done post-apocalyptic/time travel film. Gilliam got some great performances out of middling actors (Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis) and the movie actually worked quite well, despite a bizzare plot (even by SF movie standards).
12 Monkeys was particularly effective at conjuring a particular kind of urban horror-a ravaged landscape populated by a degenerate, deranged humanity-the decayed insane asylum...the howling schizophrenics...the squalid bordello...almost more of a horror movie than science fiction.
