Notwithstanding Rob Reiner's relatively weaker efforts recently, I would consider him a four-star director. For what it was (and the film was saved by John Cusack), "The Sure Thing" (1985) was decent enough, but "This Is Spinal Tap" (1984), "The Princess Bride" (1987), and "When Harry Met Sally" (1989) remain seminal 80's flicks, and all three are diverse in their approach. The 90's and beyond has Reiner much spottier, but he still directed three classics during this latter period, namely "A Few Good Men" (1992), "Sleepless I Seattle" (1993), and "The American President" (1995) (even if the latter was a bit preachy at times). The bottom line is that perfection isn't a realistic measurement, and if Reiner can regain his focus, that elusive fifth star may still be his. Rob Reiner was born March 6, 1947 in New York City.

Has made some very good movies with classic scenes: Kathy Bates with the sledgehammer in Misery , Jack Nicholsohn's You cant handle the truth! soliloque and the classic Meg Ryan fake orgasm.

Another Hollywood Lib telling the little people how they shall live. Get over yourself; you were the least talented on All in the Family.

Rob Reiner has always been one of my favorite directors. He's so versatile as a director. He directed the compelling dramas "A Few Good Men" and "Ghosts of Mississippi". Then he moved on to the comedy, "This is Spinal Tap". Then we've got the children's movie, "The Princess Bride". The romantic comedies, "When Harry Met Sally" and "The American President". Let's not forget the chilling film, "Misery" starring Kathy Bates. Rob Reiner has easily proved himself to be a fine director, and a versatile one at that, in my eyes.

He is ok because of the movie "A few Good Men" but i do not belive he should be this far up on the list.

Unless I'm forgetting any, I don't know of any of his movies that have meant much to me. Too bad he didn't inherit some of his father's talent.

If the only movie Rob Reiner ever directed was "This Is Spinal Tap," I'd probably still rate him five stars. "Spinal Tap" may be the funniest movie ever made. Add to that a couple great feel-good movies ("The Princess Bride" and "When Harry Met Sally") and a solid drama ("A Few Good Men"), and there's no question that Reiner deserves five stars. And that's not even mentioning "The American President," "Stand By Me," and "The Sure Thing."

I don't know too much of his work. (I missed Rob Reiner week on TNT, or TBS, or whatever station showed it last October.) However, "The Princess Bride" is one of my favorite movies and is well done. However, I cannot rate a career on one movie alone, so Mr. Reiner is limited to 4 stars.
