Is it still called a boycott if I don't buy the product because I think it's wrong to over pay for a product that isn't any better than regularly priced goods of comparable quality, regardless of the crimes against humanity that may be committed in its manufacturing?

I haven't owned a pair of Nikes since I was in elementary school. I don't like their products and they are overpriced. why should shoes that were made by some kid in a third world country be so expensive?

Really they use silly, cutesy commercials to sell an overpriced product.

I think that irshgit has a good point with: "Pretty much all the big shoe companies are reckless exploiters of third world child labour." If you need any kind of althletic shoes, it's hard to find a manufacturer that has decent labour practices. Of course you could buy a pair of Silver Series, made in Missouri and marketed by Wal-Mart, and I honestly don't know how they treat their employees. But they'll completely fall apart in about 2 weeks, and I'm speaking from experience here, I've owned two pairs, and they really just started to fall apart after a couple of weeks. I used to buy Reebok, which probably doesn't have much better practices than Nike, but they started making their shoes in such a way that they try to shred your achilles tendon, so no more Reebok. I now buy Nike because if I really try, I can find some that fit, and you can get them in the $50-$60 range if you look for sales, and they will at least last a few months.

Pretty much all the big shoe companies are reckless exploiters of third world child labour.

But these guys don't even pretend to have a conscience about it.

For me, boycotts are a personal matter. I make decisions based on often arbitrary judgements, and they are entirely personal decisions. I make them, not expecting that my withdrawal of economic input will make a change or a difference, but that I feel that I have not further enhanced a wrong.

Too much NBA involvement (numbah spits and throws crap at the Spurs) and children make the shoes. Boycotts are justified, I suppose.
