 | RichardMarshal (7) 04/12/2008 | That's just too general. The vast majority of people are prone to hypocrisy, and the Gospels are riddled with statements that can be viewed as hypocritcal by anyone who's looking for hypocrisy and not answers, and they expect Christians to give them the answers instead of thinking about it themselves like Christians are supposed to do. It's an inherently dead end situation, condemning a large group to a generalization that is true for every segment of society - worse for Christians, since no one can defend their specific personal hypocrisies until they're revealed, as any Christian is supposed to have done to them.

 | Humorbot (21) 03/05/2008 | Well the fact that so many Christians are anti-gay, the fact that so many Christians turn their noses up at people who don't act as they act, the fact that it's not even a high percentage of Christians that properly "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" let alone "love thy neighbour" tends to seem to me that "hypocrite" is quite often a reasonable term to use. I went to a Christian group for a few months last year and of about 25 or so people, apart from me, I would say "Hypocrite" was a completely reasonable label for all but 2 of them. Of course this is extremely judgemental of me and therefore I too am (to some extent) a hypocrite. But I'm not gonna deny that. You wanna call me a hypocrite, go right ahead, I agree, I hate myself for it. But one of those 25 hurt me, they hurt me really badly. And they had in their msn name "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." I can pretty safely say I am struggling under the weight of my cross as I drag it with me everyday. Can every Christian say that without lying, exaggerating or saying what they think they are expected to say? Honestly? I don't know. But I doubt it. I knew her very well once upon a time, the only cross she is carrying is nothing more than a trinket.
Would I ever use the word to describe Christians in general though? No. That's completely judgemental, unreasonable and seeing as I am a Christian, it would be hypocritical of me to do so. Although I would admit to being judgemental, unreasonable and therefore a hypocrite. (4 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 2 agree) |
 | James76255 (17) 02/01/2008 | This has more to do with the person than the belief. I do know someone that is a shining example of this, proclaiming herself a Christian at every turn, then when she thinks nobody is paying attention doing the most un-Christian like things imaginable. This shouldn't label millions of people, no matter what this one person does.

 | MDStewart (10) 02/01/2008 | People must understand that a person who likes to talk Christ, yet doesn't obey Christ, has nothing to do with the Lord's church. Many people neglect the assembly of the church because they feel ALL Christians are hypocrites. That isn't true. Our relationship with Christ is personal, and if one seeks, one will find people who are humble in their worship, and very concerned about fellowship.

 | Donovan (129) 12/01/2007 | "I don't want to go to that church because there are too many
hypocrites there!" I'm sure you have heard this said before or maybe
you have said it yourself. Well, no one is perfect and what better
place for hypocrites to go than the church. Our Christian walk is a
work in progress; we will make mistakes and we
will fail. There are hypocrites in all walks of life and no one likes
to be called one. This term is not unique to Christians. Some people
think that once you become a Christian that you should never make a
mistake again. That would be nice if it were true. Unfortunately it is
not only false but also unrealistic. We should, with that said, keep
striving to be more like Christ remembering that only He is perfect and
this is why we need Him so much. Please don't ever give up because it
will be worth it in the end.

 | abichara (60) 06/23/2007 | There certainly have been plenty of people throughout history who have done unspeakable things in the name of Christ, things that he certainly would have never advocated.
Indeed, I find many people who have a chip on their shoulder about Christianity know the least bit about it. But there are also a lot of good people who genuinely try to live out the ideals that Christ stipulated. So maybe perhaps its best that we not paint with such a broad brush here.

 | LadyJesusFan777 (33) 06/14/2007 | Even Jesus Himself used this term quite often because there are many,
but as I have read in other reviews, and I couldn't agree more,
hypocracy is found in every walk of life.

 | MissPackRat4Jesus (38) 06/14/2007 | True there are a few who claim Christianity who may be hypocrites, but we should never let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch.
There are hypocrites everywhere; this isn't limited to Christians.

 | CanadaSucks (45) 06/14/2007 | Strange to believe that these concepts are always linked together. . .America is so loaded with hypocritical aspects that one doesn't quite know where to begin- it goes beyond a simple correlation between 'religious=hypocrisy'. . .it's an oversimplification without more information. . .
