One of the closest friends I had in politics was another hatchet man like me, who worked for pols on the other side of the aisle.
Smart, funny, ascerbic and a good man with a bottle of singlemalt we frequently ran into each other during campaigns and usually found time to laugh at the vagaries of the life we had chosen.
Like me, he left the game some time ago, and changed careers. Unfortunately, his office was in the World Trade Center and he made the mistake of showing up for work on 9/11.

UPDATE: Case in point, for our playful banter and all, IJR is somebody I actually do respect (kill me now) and he's left of me for sure and an ahteist. See, you people just gotta find some common ground like watching Wallace and Ladmo or hating the Cardinals! Find something, people!
