This is a legendary rivalry in soccer. Both teams are from Glasgow. The Celtic are primarily of Irish Catholic descent and the Rangers are Lowland Scots Presbyterian. Irish politics also spills over with the Celtic fans singing Irish Republican songs and the Rangers fans crooning Protestant Unionist songs.

Rangers fans will take the ferries to Dublin when the team is there and take over part of the town. Rangers clear out several pubs and declare it, in effect, Ranger territory and hold it against all comers for several days!

Ranger riots, in Spain, are also notable, recently. The Rangers club was actually fined for its fans activities.

It's all in fun, I suppose.

You want to talk sports rivalries? This is the bull-goose loony rivalry of all time.

Both team historically challenge for the top of their league. They're both in the same city. One is traditionally Protestant, the other traditionally Catholic. One is considered working class, the other middle class. Their fans are insane to the point of deadly violence.
And they've been going at it for more than a century.

Make the Red Sox-Yankees look like a schoolyard squabble.
