While the story was old, and the actors portrayed sketches rather than fully-formed characters, some intriguing new twists were added, including the robot "Ash", played by the accomplished British actor Ian Holm. I saw this movie in my late teens, and loved it, viewing it several times during the course of that summer. Part of that was because the movie, whatever its flaws, really worked in a visceral sort of way, and partly because Sigourney Weaver looked really, really good during her final confrontation with the Alien.
