Once you got past Schilling and Johnson, there wasn't much there.

Of course getting past those two took some pretty good ballplaying.

Johnson and Schilling were a powerful duo, Batista was serviceable, and Webb has turned out to be a good pitcher. The rest of the staff was pedestrian, but it was certainly a great 1-2 punch for a few years, really one of the best duos at the top in recent years.

While they did not have a great supporting cast, you still had Curt Shilling and Randy Johnson. In 2001 this duo was nearly unbeatable. Johnson posted a record of 21-6 with an era of 2.49 and 372 k's. Shilling was 22-6 with an era of 2.98 and 293 k's. You add Miguel Batista in 02' and Brandon Webb in 03', I would say they were formidable.
