I know from personal experience that this particular statement is total bull. The toughest person I've ever known in my life was my mother. And in my mother's world if you hadn't earned it you didn't get it. That was true for strangers and co-workers and it was doubly true for her five sons. Her respect was something that had to be earned on a daily basis by honesty and hard work. You didn't get praised for brushing your teeth or doing your homework or finishing your chores on time. Those things were expected. You did get praise for going out of your way to do a good turn, or helping out when you didn't have to, or putting someone else's welfare ahead of your selfish wants. The only prize was your own self-esteem. The point of all that being that the woman was a staunch lifelong Democrat. So my response to this ridiculous list item is a resounding.. Bull.
I'm not a Democrat, by the way. But I know from having lived with a Republican father and a Democratic mother that no one party and no one ideology holds all of life's truths.
