ItemImageChicago's Field Museum of Natural History is spread over nine acres and considered one of the best of its kind. Visitors may be awed by the largest Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil ever discovered, twenty-three actual Egyptian mummies, a recreation of South Pacific ocean life, or a virtual journey aboard a slave ship. Other temporary features are consistently popular, as well.

Maybe I just have too high of standards since I had just visited the Smithsonian a few months before going to the Field Museum, but I wasn't really that impressed. I thought the price of admission was rather high, and when I was there it seemed like half the place was either under construction or closed for the installation of new exhibits.

So much to see and do in this Museum. One of the top I've ever been to. Such great history and artifacts. Worth a visit if you have never been here. It has dinosaurs and mummies...how can you beat that??

When you walk into the Field Museum, the first thing you see is the most preserved T-Rex skeleton in the world across from a giant wooly mammoth, in a gigantic marble hall. It looks exactly what you'd expect a natural history museum to look like, and indeed it covers everything - getting through this entire museum in even an entire day is impossible. It's perched next to two other major Chicago museums, in one of the most spectacular parks along the lakefront. This is really a can't miss museum in Chicago - only the Art Institute begins to approach its quality.
