Voting is fine. It's what happens to the loser and how they handle loss that is key. Will the minority accept the outcome? Or will the winner subdue all opposition upon gaining power, thus ignoring the rights of a large plurality of the people? Democracy at the end of the day requires acceptance of broader principles that everyone can agree on.
