December 21, 1974, in Oakland Colisseum, for the AFC playoff game.
A tremendous back and forth game, with great plays both ways, and huge individual efforts, came down to this....
With the Dolphins leading 26-21 with under 40 seconds left, Oakland had the ball first and goal on the Dolphin 8. Stabler dropped back looking for Biletnikoff with the Miami rush closing on him.
Seeing Biletnikoff bracketed, Stabler looked to his left for Clarence Davis, and with end Vern Den Herder pulling him down tossed the ball into a sea of hands. Davis outfought the crowd of Dolphin defenders, coming down with the ball, to give the Raiders the win in what I still regard as the best game I've ever seen.
So thanks for being part of that, Dolphins.
