If I was an NFL owner starting a new franchise from scratch, I would build my team around this man. Sure these other guys are great players and most had great speed, agility, durability, some of them were great blocking backs, some caught the ball well out of the backfield, some ran over guys, like Earl Campbell, but what set Sanders apart was his ability to always make something out of nothing. I watched him throughout his career and 8 out of 10 times he touched the ball there was a D-lineman in his face as soon as he touched the ball. Many other names on here were surrounded by great lines, quarterbacks or other playmakers. Sanders never had a great line or even a good quarterback.
Barry was also an asset to his team through his great character on and off the field. On another side note, Sanders only missed 2 games in his entire career. In the end, many put him down for the way he left the game. I have followed the Detroit Lions since 1989 and I could see where he would have had enough with the Ford family management. They build and run their team like their pathetic cars.
