Biting and brilliant comedy and performing from the mind of the multi-talented Steve Coogan. In this series (and the series I'M STILL ALAN PATRIDGE that followed) Steve plays a British TV personality who spends each episode puffing himself up to others and trying to be much more than he is. Why are so many truly funny series about men trying desperately to be something they are not? All I am sure of, is that in the case of Alan Partridge it is sometimes screamingly hilarious.

A friend of mine sat me down for an evening of Alan Partridge that he'd video taped and I was laughing so hard that I had sore stomach muscles. Admittedly we were enjoying a few Smithwick's while we were watching, but I still think that Steve Coogan is one of the great under appreciated comedians of his generation. The obliviously obnoxious Partridge has stumbled his way down the media ladder from national sports show host to talk show fiasco to late night local radio and still manages to offend with hilarious results. Like the best losers in British comedy, Mr. Bean, Fawlty Towers and Some Mother Do Have 'Em, you find yourself hanging on the edge of your seat, believing that this time our hero wil redeem himself, only to be pleasantly amused at how wrong it can actually go.
