If people don't have a fence and a house dog needs to be tied out some Im ok with it. What I don't understand is why people get dogs to tie them to a doghouse or tree to LIVE there.

Outside of seeing a skinny, scared stray darting through the streets, nothing sends my brain cells into a frenzy like seeing some poor dog pacing out a lonely life in some dim wit's backyard. Pet ownership requires responsibility and the first thing you need to realize is that dogs are social creatures. They don't just need food and shelter they also need companionship. If you can't provide all their needs you don't need a dog. If you want to read more about this crime against animals, please go to Dogs Deserve Better...and spread the word!

Instead of seeing a dog on a chain and leaving them there all day with no water or food like I've seen in some cases, a person should take their dog for a walk, let them do their business, and remember to bring a pooper scooper along.

If you are going to commit to having a dog you should first commit to having the appropriate facilities, which includes a securely fenced yard. You should also commit to providing the animal regular exercise and socialization. I've yet to se a chained up dog that doesn't bark incessantly when ever some one walks by.

I Can see putting dog on a chain for when he/she goes outside for awhile. safer that letting him run lose if you do not have a fenced in yard. would think awful if the poor thing is chained 100% of the time. and neglected and forgotten. than why bother getting a dog.?

No one should really keep their dog chained up all the time, but occasionally larger dogs should be chained up. For example, if you have a big dog who really isn't used to children, and you have friends coming over who have little children, there's nothing wrong with chaining your dog up outside for a few hours as long as you give it plenty to eat and drink, and make sure there is some shade if the weather is hot.
