Another educational must visit. In regards to the Liberty Bell security, it is because of a disturbed guy who cracked the Liberty Bell with a stick like object. Security was put in place because of that incident which happened before 9/11.

 | ElegantFire (0) 08/07/2001 | The Liberty Bell was exactly what I expected, except that it was actually out in the open where people could touch it and get close to it, instead of in some glass case, which is great. The tour guide at the pavilion told us a lot about the history of the bell, which is interesting if you like history. It's kind of surprising what they tell you too, and you can learn that a lot of what you know about the bell is actually a myth. I won't spoil the surprise though!
