Don't remember much about the tv show but Hoppy was one of my heroes as a kid in the fifties. I do remember seeing him in person at a holiday parade in that era. Big thrill!

Not quite as entertaining as the B-movies that gave it rise in the 1940s, too predictable, perhaps, but a smart and smooth transition from which television captured movie fans to the new medium. Edgar Buchanan as 'Red Connors' did not appeal as much as Gabby Hayes had for Roy Rogers. Hoppie's handsome horse 'Topper,' for some reason, did not make as much of an impression as 'Trigger' had either.
