His only crime was being a Portuguese Jew; However, Lopez could take some small comfort that the man-whore who accused him, Earl of Essex, lost his head on Tower Green.

*Acording to JewishEncyclopedia.com, he may have been an inspiration for Shakespeare's Shylock in the The Merchant of Venice.
