Although I find team sports excruciatingly boring, I do this 'cause my gf's son plays in the band.

I wish other sports were as respected (and hs football players didn't get away with criminal behavior because of their exalted status).

My sons played for them, and I have volunteered for them for the last seven years, coordinating security, volunteers and field set up. The games are one of the high points of my autumn.  To me this is as much about what this program has done for a lot of fine young men, as what they have accomplished on the field.

And its damn entertaining too.





This year the team is ranked 2nd in the province, and looking like a strong contender for the championship.

I went to a high school football game once. I left at half time.


Friday night high school basketball games on the other hand, were a significant part of my high school years, mostly as the meeting place to discuss where the party was going to be after the game.

But they're horrible...

UPDATE: I will say this, I learned alot about how to read and recognize the contents of a stale, predictable playbook from my post in the stands on 2nd Trombone. Its no wonder we got the shit kicked out of us all the time if some kid from the marching band can call out the play calls before the snap with 90% accuracy.

Seeing the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals on a Friday night has never been so easy.

One of my favorite things!!! There is a high school stadium near here. It's a lot of fun and you can see some good football.

For some people, this is okay and I don't pick on them- but if my kid isn't playing I could think of nothing worse than wasting my time here- I want to watch the pros, not kids. . .plus, there is nothing, nothing more pathetic that the 'graduated' players walking around in their old jackets who desperately want to relive the past. . .
