Gall (1840-1894) 3

Gall was one of the Sioux and Cheyenne hard-cases who, with Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Lame White Man and others, were the objects of the Powder River expedition that culminated in the Battle of the Little Big Horn. He was Sitting Bull's chief military advisor and led a major contigent at the Little Big Horn (or as he would have called it, Greasy Grass) While it is difficult to determine his military abilities, he seems to have been an adaptive and innovative leader, getting his people to fight from cover, advance in skirmish formation and enfilade their enemies; all tactics generally uncommon among his people before him.
